The I Do Wedding Awards 2020
The Undercover Waiters continue to lead the way in the field of entertainment after the secret singers bagged another award for their unique wedding act.
For a third year in a row, our Yorkshire based team of professional performers were nominated as finalists for the Best Wedding Entertainment in Yorkshire and the East Midlands.
However, we were made to wait to discover the outcome as the Covid-19 pandemic put pay to May’s planned black tie award ceremony at Sheffield City Hall Ballroom.
The event organisers were therefore forced to adapt to suit the current climate, after hopes of rescheduling in person hit the buffers, and so staged their first ever Virtual I Do Wedding Awards in November 2020.
The excitement of attending these types of events never diminishes no matter how often you have won an award, but this experience was certainly a little different!
Sadly on this occasion, our team of dedicated singers couldn’t be all together in the same room due to the restrictions in place, but we were all tuned in to the event at the same time, dressed in our finest, as the Facebook Live show started.

The whole of The Undercover Waiters crew also hooked up virtually over Zoom in order to share our reactions as we eagerly awaited news from our category.
Virtual Wedding Awards
The presentation of the evening was seamless with green screen technology and the regular professional host DJ Stephanie Hirst adding to the excitement of the announcements as suppliers ranging from Best Wedding Venue to Best in Bridal learnt their fate.
A champagne moment arrived midway through the ceremony as our sister company Snap Your Moment, run by Michael’s husband Simon, clinched the award for best photobooth at the first time of asking!
As ever, our award category was one of the last to be revealed and competition this time was stiffer than ever with an amazing solo vocalist, a close-up magician and an entertainment company all making it through to the final four alongside ourselves.
We first tasted the joy of victory in 2018, before following up that success story 12 months later. Could The Undercover Waiters make it a hat-trick in 2020?
The last ten months have certainly been very challenging for everyone particularly in the wedding industry, so the nomination as a finalist itself was very satisfying.
However, our morale would be lifted even further when Stephanie Hirst opened the envelope and revealed that the winner of the Best Wedding Entertainment was….THE UNDERCOVER WAITERS!

We had only gone and done it again for a third straight year.
A kitchen and an office bedroom in West Yorkshire, an office bedroom in South Yorkshire and a living room in East Yorkshire erupted in cheers!
The final award of the night was for ‘Best In Show’, and once again we were in contention to win it.
Sadly this time, it wasn’t to be, but having won two awards out of three, we certainly weren’t going to get downhearted at what we, and Simon, had achieved.
Being based all over the country, the awards night is one of the few times we as a company can all get together, not only are we work colleagues but we are all friends as well.
Not being able to get together at all in recent times has been tough, but through Zoom, Whatsapp and Facebook we’ve managed to all stay in touch.
Let’s hope that the 2021 I Do Wedding Awards will allow us to all get together again at such a prestigious, and fun, event, if we make the finals for a 4th time.
More importantly though, we can’t wait to get back out there performing and entertaining you as without your support and love we couldn’t achieve everything we have.
